March 3rd, 1999 was a turning point in American history.; with the Columbine shooting standing as a testament to what we believed at the time would be the last school shooting, with mass shootings soon to follow suit.
Unfortunately, though, here we are almost twenty years later, and we are experiencing an increased amount of mass shootings.
Since Columbine, 720 people have lost their lives to different mass shootings, whether they were at schools, parks, work places, or other public areas, mass shootings have affected many generations and will continue to do so.
As with all of my pieces, I hope to get the viewer to think about each person as an individual. With each nail representing a person lost, and with one string connecting them all via multiple tragedies, each nail is just as important as the last.
For my research, I defined a “mass shooting” as a shooting where at least four or more people died. In these numbers I do not count the perpetrator.
